Dietetics constitutes a key branch of health and plays an important role today in dealing with issues related to overweight, obesity, diet-related diseases, and supporting a healthy lifestyle.

What is Dietetics?

Dietetics is a fascinating scientific field focused on understanding the role of nutrition in maintaining health and supporting the treatment of various conditions. It is a comprehensive approach to shaping proper eating habits, taking into account the individual needs of the body. The main goal of dietetics is not only to supply the right nutrients, but also to analyze the impact of diet on the body’s functioning, and to prevent nutrition-related diseases. Dietetics combines knowledge from medical sciences, public health, chemistry, biology, nutrition psychology, and other fields. A dietitian’s expertise includes not only an understanding of nutrients, but also the ability to plan balanced diets, analyze body composition, diagnose nutritional problems, and conduct effective nutritional counseling.

What will you learn?

During your dietetics studies, you will gain comprehensive knowledge and practical skills by choosing one of three specializations that will prepare you for various professional areas:

1. Nutrition in Sport, Tourism, and Recreation

This specialization focuses on developing the skills necessary to design balanced dietary plans for physically active individuals. Classes in the exercise physiology lab will allow you to explore the secrets of sports nutrition, understand the effect of diet on athletic performance, and teach you to use the latest performance monitoring technologies.

2. Psychodietetics with Coaching Elements

This specialization is aimed at understanding the complex relationship between the psyche and nutrition. You will learn to identify and support patients with psychosomatic disorders, integrating elements of coaching. The nutritional counseling lab will equip you with the skills to conduct dietary interviews, analyze patients’ lifestyles, and create personalized diet programs.

3. Dietary Prevention and Diet Therapy

This specialization will allow you to gain the skills needed to work in the area of health prevention and treatment of nutrition-related diseases. You will go through the clinical dietetics lab, where you will learn to diagnose nutritional conditions and create personalized dietary plans. Additionally, classes in the chemistry lab will equip you with the ability to analyze the quality of food products and assess patients’ nutritional status.

Where can you work after graduation?

After completing your studies in dietetics, many career opportunities will open up to you across various sectors. A graduate specializing in diet prevention and therapy can work in medical facilities, supporting patients in treating nutrition-related diseases and conducting preventive actions. Those specializing in psychodietetics may find employment in facilities dealing with psychosomatic disorders and run their own businesses in this area. Specialists in sport, tourism, and recreation nutrition can work in sports clubs, health resorts, gyms, and other institutions focused on active lifestyles. Graduates can also open their own dietetic practices, offer nutritional counseling, conduct training, or cooperate with companies producing healthy food or dietary supplements. Their knowledge of nutrition makes them valuable partners for restaurants, where they can help create dietary concepts and promote healthy eating. Those interested in food quality analysis and scientific research can find employment in laboratories involved in food product quality control. Pursuing further education through Master’s or postgraduate studies is another path that allows for the development of specialized knowledge and acquisition of new skills.

Dietetics is a path to knowledge about healthy eating and professional fulfillment. Discover the secrets of a balanced life and help others take care of their health!
